Disaster Recovery Construction for Major Property Loss

Full-scope rebuilds after fire, flood, hurricane, and catastrophic events. CBC-licensed GC coordinating mitigation handoff, structural rebuild, and carrier paperwork as one project.

After mitigation, before rebuild

The handoff from mitigation to construction is where most claims stall

Water-extraction and demo crews are usually first on scene — and they’re paid to leave the building dry, not finished. Then the project sits while the owner calls contractors, gathers bids, and waits for the carrier to approve scope. We pick up the project at the mitigation handoff: take possession of the dry, demoed space, scope the rebuild in Xactimate, get carrier sign-off, and run construction on a tight schedule. For commercial owners, every week of downtime is lost revenue. For homeowners, it’s another week in a rental. Disaster recovery construction is about moving fast without skipping the documentation that gets the claim paid.

Why we’re the right GC for disaster recovery

CBC-licensed, multi-vertical capability

CBC 1258403. Same crew handles a hotel rebuild and a single-family home — no learning curve when scope expands.

Carrier-facing documentation built in

Xactimate scoping, supplement support, ACV/RCV reconciliation, and clean closeout files reduce the time between substantial completion and final check.

$15M+ documented hurricane restoration portfolio

Stephen Cusimano’s body of work includes multi-million-dollar hospitality hurricane projects — Crowne Plaza Houston ($4.3M), Casa Marina Key West ($2.8M), Best Western Maingate Kissimmee ($2.4M).

Disaster recovery construction — common questions

  • Do you also do the water mitigation, or just rebuild?

We coordinate mitigation through licensed restoration partners but our scope as the GC starts at the rebuild. If you don’t have a mitigation vendor yet, we can recommend one and step in once the building is dry and demoed.

  • Can you work with the mitigation vendor my carrier sent?

Yes. We take the handoff from any qualified mitigation crew. The hand-over walk-through and photo documentation come with us; nothing the prior vendor did gets lost in transition.

  • How does this differ from regular construction?

Two big differences: a carrier sits behind every scope decision, and the building was just damaged — so hidden conditions show up during demo. We budget time for both. Regular new construction doesn’t have either pressure.

  • What types of disasters do you handle?

Hurricane, tropical storm, fire, water loss, vehicle impact, and vandalism. Mold and biohazard remediation are handled by licensed third-party hygienists we coordinate. Earthquakes and tornadoes are outside the SWFL norm.

  • Do you carry the right insurance?

General liability, workers’ comp, and the bonding capacity expected of a Florida CBC-licensed GC. Certificates of insurance are provided before contract signing on every project.
