Bathroom Remodeler — Waterproofing, Tile, and Layout That Holds Up
Master, guest, and powder bathroom remodels for SWFL homeowners. Properly waterproofed, code-permitted, and built with the tile and plumbing detail that prevents leaks five years out.
Bathroom remodels go wrong in places the homeowner can’t see
Bathroom remodels fail in two places: the shower pan and the wet-wall plumbing. Both are buried before the tile goes on. Cheap remodels skip the membrane on shower walls, use mastic instead of thinset, and route a vent through wall cavities. It looks fine on day one. Then a leak shows up three years later, the wall has to come down, and the remodel happens twice. We build bathrooms to the same waterproofing standard hotel work requires — Schluter or Hydro Ban membrane systems, code-compliant pan slope, properly vented plumbing. Tile is the last 10% of the project, not the most important.

Bathroom remodeling — common questions
How long does a bathroom remodel take?
3-5 weeks active construction for a standard bathroom; 5-8 weeks for a master with custom tile work and a heated floor. Add 2-4 weeks before construction for selections and material lead times.
Do I need a permit to remodel my bathroom?
Yes. Plumbing relocations, electrical changes, and structural work all require permits in Sarasota and Charlotte counties. Tile-only refreshes sometimes don’t — we’ll tell you which side of the line your scope sits on.
What waterproofing system do you use?
Schluter Kerdi or Hydro Ban (Laticrete) for showers, depending on the install. Both are code-accepted membrane systems. We don’t do "cement board and hope" — that’s how bathrooms leak.
Can I keep my old plumbing in the same location to save money?
Yes — keeping fixtures in their current locations saves 15-25% versus relocating. Layout flexibility is the trade-off; we’ll show you the cost delta for the layout you want versus the one you have.
Walk-in shower or tub/shower combo?
Personal preference and resale. A primary bathroom can be walk-in only; a home with one bathroom usually keeps a tub for resale (and family flexibility). We’ll talk through your specifics.
What about converting to a roll-in/ADA shower?
Common ask for aging-in-place. Curbless showers require specific waterproofing and slope detail; we have done them and they last when built right.
